Halftone printing in screen printing: For color gradients & photo motifs

Screen printing is traditionally known for bold, solid colors. But what if your logo contains soft gradients, shading, or even photorealistic elements?

That's where our modern halftone printing technology comes in.

How does halftone printing work?

Instead of applying ink as a solid layer, the design is broken down into fine halftone dots. The human eye reassembles these dots from a distance, creating a smooth transition or a blended tone.

This allows for impressive halftones and shading, even with traditional screen printing.

From 4-color process to spot colors

Thanks to ongoing modernization, we've mastered the full spectrum:

  • Simple halftones: To represent a color in different shades of brightness (e.g., dark blue transitioning to light blue).
  • 4-color process (CMYK): By halftoneing the four primary colors (cyan, magenta, yellow, black), we can print colorful images and complex graphics directly onto glass or porcelain.

Direct or indirect printing? We'll advise you!

Whether we use direct printing or indirect screen printing (decal) for your halftone design depends on your product and the print run. Not every glass shape is suitable for every halftone screen.

Therefore, we assess each request individually:

  • How fine are the details in the design?
  • What quantity is required?
  • What is the shape of the product (e.g., strongly conical or cylindrical)?
